Effect of acupuncture at Shenmen (HT 7) on amplitude of low frequency fluctuation after sleep deprivation based on cortical analysis
To explore the effect of acupuncture at Shenmen(HT 7)on the activity of amplitude of low frequency fluctuation (ALFF) after 24 h sleep deprivation based on cortical analysis.
Methods
2
A total of 30 healthy subjects were recruited
and received the needling at bilateral Shenmen acupoints (HT 7) after 24 h sleep deprivation. The functional magnetic resonance scanning (fMRI) was performed before and after sleep deprivation
and after acupuncture at HT 7. Meanwhile
DPABISurf was used to preprocess and calculate the ALFF values.
Results
2
Compared with that before sleep deprivation
the brain regions with increased ALFF values after sleep deprivation mainly included bilateral posterior central gyrus
bilateral anterior central gyrus and right paracentral lobule
meanwhile the brain regions with decreased ALFF values mainly include bilateral angular gyrus
bilateral posterior cingulate gyrus and right inferior frontal gyrus. Compared with that after sleep deprivation
the brain regions with increased ALFF values after needling at HT 7 mainly included the right superior orbitofrontal gyrus and inferior frontal gyrus
and the brain regions with decreased ALFF values included the bilateral posterior central gyrus
left anterior central gyrus
bilateral paracentral lobules
and left insula. Compared with that before sleep deprivation
there was no significant change in ALFF value in brain regions after acupuncture. Conclusions Acupuncture at HT 7 can modulate the abnormal functional activities of multiple brain regions related to cognitive functions and emotional regulation after sleep deprivation
which may be the effect mechanism of acupuncture on sleep deprivation.
