Discussion on the treatment of Alzheimer disease from the theory of "the kidney stores the will"
a neurodegenerative disease characterized by progressive cognitive impairment
is the most common type of dementia. During the progression of AD
multiple TCM patterns may be present
which follow certain rules. Based on the theory of "the kidney stores the will" proposed in
The Yellow Emperor’s Inner Classic
hypothesis of kidney deficiency in AD and its sequential therapy based on kidney-reinforcing was proposed in this study. The therapeutic idea of AD is discussed from the theory of "the kidney stores the will" . If this function is normal
the memory and mental activity remain normal. Abnormalities in the will-storing function of the kidney are not only the initiator of AD
but also the core pathogenesis throughout the whole process of the disease. In light of the close connection between "the kidney stores the will" and the memory and the spiritual activities of human body
the method of supplementing the kidney
producing essence and strengthening the will is proposed as the basic treatment of AD. The focus should be placed on supplementing the kidney in the early stage
invigorating blood
resolving phlegm and draining fire in the middle
and resolving toxins and stopping collapse in the late stage
which provides a theoretical basis for "supplementing the kidney in the early stage and throughout the treatment" in the sequential therapy.
