Objective

To observe the effects of Shuxuetong Injection on glaucomatous optic atrophy.

Methods

64 patients with glaucomatous optic atrophy were randomly divided into the treatment group(

n

=32) and control group(

n

=32). There were 30 cases (60 eyes) in the treatment group and 30 cases (58 eyes) in the control group after the shedding cases were excluded. All participants received MeCobalamin Tablets while the treatment group received additional Shuxuetong Injection. The best corrected visual acuity(BCVA)

visual field mean deviation and Quality of Life Scale score were observed.

Results

BCVA improved significantly in both groups after treatment(

significantly more in the treatment group than in the control group. Visual field mean deviation was significantly increased after treatment in the treatment group

but not in the control group

as compared with those before treatment (

0.05). Visual field mean deviation was remarkedly increased

more in the treatment group than in the control group

and the differences in before-after treatments between the two groups were significant (

0.05). And the scores of far vision

regulation ability

reading and fine movement

daily living ability and quality of life scale total scores all improved after treatment in the treatment group(

0.05) while the scores of reading and fine movement quality of life scale total scores improved after treatment in the control group(

the improvements in scores of each dimension and total score of the quality of life scale were greater in the treatment group than in the control group(

Shuxuetong Injection can effectively improve the clinical symptoms and quality of life among patients with glaucomatous optic atrophy.
